Atlanta producer Michael Malott and his Instruments for the Youth Charity have just released a new limited edition jazz compilation album to raise funds for their charity.
The album, entitled Expressions in Jazz Major features a stellar line up including former Police guitarist, ANDY SUMMERS, the Grammy winning track ?Africa? from legendary jazz guitarist, PAT MARTINO. Pat has performed with artists including John Handy and Jimmy McGriff. Also featured on this album is ERNIE WATTS, the sax man whose long resume includes names the likes of The Rolling Stones, Buddy Rich, Pat Metheny, Jean Luc Ponty and more. The extraordinary Grammy nominated guitarist CRAIG CHAQUICO of Jefferson Starship contributes a track to the compilation as does the influential Latin superstar, PONCHO SANCHEZ. A debut track from The GUMBI ORTIZ LATINO PROJEKT featuring BARRY MILES and DAVE WECKLE and engineered by ROGER NICHOLS, whose best known for producing practically every Steely Dan album ever released. The album also features guitarist STEVE KHAN who has performed and recorded with Buddy Rich, Larry Coryell and has a very successful reputation as one of the premiere session guitarists in the business. THE DAVID BECKER TRIBUNE, fresh off a sold out European tour contributes to the project along with former Testament guitarist, ALEX SKOLNICK and his trio. Alex made his claim to fame at an early age in one of hard rocks most successful 80?s band. Alex one day watched a Miles Davis concert and traded in his heavy metal licks for jazz and ever since has been making a considerable contribution to the world of jazz. Fusion guitarist, JEFF CIAMPA also makes his contribution to the album with a sizzling version of his track, ?Up in Smoke?. Closing out the album is a track from Calcutta?s, SURINDER SANDHU and American rock guitarist, STEVE VAI. The album cover features the art of ANDY SUMMERS.
The release is making its way into area record stores, but is available now at the charities website, http://www.instrumentsfortheyouth.org Only 1000 copies of Expressions in Jazz Major will be available for purchase.
Instruments for the Youth supplies free musical instruments, toys, schoolbooks and clothes to underprivileged and impoverished children. They have just launched their Children?s Rock N? Dream Foundation which arranges for celebrity visits to children?s hospitals.
The charity has enjoyed the support of a long list of celebrity artists, and major companies including Keith Richards, No Doubt, Billy Joel, Paul Stanley, Christina Aguilera, Michelle Branch, Third Eye Blind, Backstreet Boys, The Tonight Show, Gladys Knight, Tom Jones and Amy Grant to name a few. The charity is supported by over 50 other major names as well as some of the biggest musical companies including C. F. MARTIN, SHURE, PEAVEY, SILVERTONE, BEHRINGER, MUSICIAN?S FRIEND, SIT STRINGS and others.
The charities projects have been well publicized especially their Tosh Tribute Album featuring Eric Clapton, Sean Paul, Ben Harper and others. The charity has been featured by CNN Headline News, ABC World News, the Today Show, Rolling Stone, AOL News, MTV, and VH1 and over 100 other publications worldwide.
The charity also produces special music clinics for children which are hosted by celebrity musical guests. These clinics allow children with a hands-on experience and introduction to music and various musical instruments.
In addition the charity has just launched new programs which will include a Christmas Toy Drive starting in November. The organization is also planning to launch a one week music camp for children which will feature celebrities as camp counselors. The program is targeted to kick off in the summer of 2005.
Malott and his charity are also currently working on a rock compilation album for release in 2005.
Instruments for the Youth is also tied in with the Peter Tosh Tribute Album project. Another charity project which will fund the construction of a free medical clinic and library in Westmoreland, Jamaica. Like the Instruments for the Youth Charity, the Tosh project is the work of Atlanta producer, Michael Malott.
The PETER TOSH TRIBUTE ALBUM will hit the streets in October of this year and feature Peter Tosh songs performed by various artists including, ERIC CLAPTON, SLASH, SEAN PAUL, J. MASCIS (Dinosaur Jr.), the late JERRY GARCIA, BEN HARPER, CYPRESS HILL, JAWARA MACINTOSH (Peter?s son), MARTHA DAVIS (The Motels), BAD BRAINS, and others.
The charity released a fundraising reggae compilation earlier this year called Put My Faith In Jah, which saw several tracks debuting in the reggae Top 10 charts. That release featured tracks from Peter Tosh, Joe Higgs, Toots & the Maytals, Luciano, and several others.
