City Canyons Records Sees The Future of Independent Music in Podcasting

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 20, 2005

City Canyons Records has seen the future of independent music and a substantial part of that future is podcasting. A large part of the independent label's strategy in promoting its most current releases has been through working with this exciting technology. City Canyons' foray into the new technology has included numerous podcasts of music from its most current release, ?slowburn? by ANEMO and participation in a very special podcast of music from another recent release,? Enter the Mysterium? by Peter Ulrich.

For the uninitiated, in simple terms, podcasts are similar to radio shows which can be downloaded directly into an iPod (or most other personal mp3 players, or a PC) and enjoyed later at the listener's leisure. Podcasts are becoming a hugely popular new way of discovering new music, or of tuning into specialist broadcasts catering for specific tastes. Podcasts are essentially global radio on demand whenever and wherever the listener wants it.

As part of City Canyons Records' podcast efforts, ANEMO?S music has charted as among the top ten tunes being offered by podcasters (PMC Top Ten at http://www.podmusiccountdown.com/archives/2005/10/pmc_top10_10150.html) and has been featured on podcasts including but not limited to PromoPicker, the Podsafe Music Network, SOMACast, AccidentHash, James Naughton, Tiny Binary Life, Reaching for Lucidity,

Aardvark's Nest, Daily Journal Podcast, Zaldor's World Podcast, DeFi Radio, MWS Podcast, BitJobs for the Masses ,Music for Jerks, MostlyTunes.com, Is This Thing On, RockCast Italia, Things Reunited, Radio Free Cruze, For What It's Worth and Mindless Rambling.

"Podcasting is a fantastic opportunity for bands to promote their music and be involved with an exciting underground music scene. The great thing about podcasts is the enormous variety of shows, which offer a staggering choice compared to terrestrial radio stations. The name "podcast" is actually a bit of a misnomer, because you might think you need an iPod to listen. In most cases, you can download and listen to podcasts on any computer/platform with a standard mp3 player. There's an element of 'Guerilla Radio' about podcasting, because it's about everyday people and their passion for all types of music, not big corporations out to make money, " says Matt Palmer who is one third of the creative core of ANEMO consisting of Palmer, Hazelle Woodhurst and Kingsley Sage.

Peter Ulrich?s foray into broadcasting is his current appearance on Projekt Podkast, a podcast of the famous darkwave record label, Projekt Records. On the podcast, Peter discusses his background as the former drummer with Dead Can Dance and his recent release on the City Canyons label, ?Enter the Mysterium? The Peter Ulrich podcast is available at http://www.projektpodkast.com/show.htm or http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=77112802.

For more information on Peter Ulrich or ANEMO, including opportunities for interviews, please contact Katherine Brodsky, Random Minds, PR. Retailers may order in-store copies of ENTER THE MYSTERIUM or ?slowburn? through Avalon Distribution (http://www.avalon-distribution.com). Consumers may purchase the album at CD Baby (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/peterulrich or http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/anemo), at the City Canyons Records Online Store (http://www.citycanyons.com/ccstore.html) or at their local record store.

Oktober Zero Releases New Album 'The Art of Raw' November 8th on Raptivism Records

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 25, 2005

NYC lyricist Oktober Zero returns Nov. 8th with a profound lyrical barrage -- "The Art of Raw". Hailing from the birthplace of hip-hop, the South Bronx, Oktober Zero is known for releases such as "Less Than Zero" and "Projekt:Building". Originally put on by underground legend Bobbito Garcia aka DJ Cucumber Slice, Oktober Zero was briefly part of the group "2 for 5" with Ace Lover. His single "Reset The Game" with J-Live is an underground classic, and "The Art of Raw" is filled with similar jewels.

A mystical theme runs through "The Art of Raw", with Oktober featured on the cover with images traditionally associated with Santeria, theAfro-Christian syncretic religion. Oktober's style is syncretic too; from street tales like "Twelve Cops Shot" to spiritual tales like "Muero Otro Dia (Die Another Day)" to "Black Magic Chick", the multi-layered flavors of the Bronx is present all at once through the whole album.

Produced exclusively by the UK's Q-Tones, "The Art of Raw" is also an example of how raw hip-hop is melding with the sophisticated technologies of tomorrow. Q-Tones and Oktober recorded the whole album without ever meeting each other via use of the internet.

Philosophical b-boys and girls, fans of boom bap, and lyrical heads will all appreciate the latest offering from the Bronx's youngest son.

IRIS Distribution, Palmetto Records and BKWLD Announce JazzOutLoud

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) August 9, 2006

IRIS Distribution, the leading digital distribution company dedicated to the successful marketing and promotion of prominent independent music and video catalogs, today announced a partnership with renowned independent jazz label, Palmetto Records and visionary web development company, BKWLD that will create the first mobile content store geared towards jazz enthusiasts.

JazzOutLoud?s comprehensive offering will include both ringtones and full track downloads across a spectrum of different jazz styles. The mobile music will be available for purchase via the web or short code and will be powered by Faspay. Early labels on board with JazzOutLoud include Palmetto Records (Dr. Lonnie Smith, Fred Hersch, Ben Allison, Ted Nash), Sunnyside (Dave Holland, Luciana Souza, Ben Monder, Steven Burns), Thirsty Ear (Sex Mob, DJ Spooky, Matthew Shipp, David S. Ware), Preservation Hall (The Preservation Hall Jazz Band), and Kayo Sterophonic (Anita O?Day), among others.

"Palmetto and BKWLD are the perfect partners for this project,? says IRIS Chief Marketing Officer, Bryn Boughton. "The staff at Palmetto brings not only a deep passion for jazz but a desire to combat the elitist persona often associated with the genre. In order to create an experience that makes both traditional and modern jazz more accessible and more fun, we brought in BKWLD, a visionary web design firm with the skill and eye to create the perfect aesthetic.?

At a time when the hits driven mobile market is dominated by rock and hip hop, an important market segment has been overlooked. ?Our goal is to bring jazz to the market in new and innovative ways. The mobile market of high-end phones and the demographic segment that jazz caters to is a perfect fit. There is amazing music being made in this genre and this is but one more way to get it heard,? says Pat Rustici of Palmetto Records.

Mobile content has grown in popularity as advanced handsets have become more ubiquitous. Consumers desire personalized mobile phones that reflect their individual lifestyle and musical tastes. Along with purchasing pre-defined ringtones, JazzOutLoud includes Faspay?s edit on the fly technology that allows jazz fans to create their own custom ringtone from the section of the song that is most meaningful to them. ?The ringtones that will be purchased from JazzOutLoud truly reflect the tastes and style of the fan because they can choose exactly the portion of the song that they want, ? says BKWLD Vice President of Entertainment, Edmond Meehan. "We are excited to offer the Jazz community a dedicated place to discover this type of unique content."

JazzOutLoud will launch this fall.
