GiveMore.com Shares ?The Worst Thing About Meetings? Survey Results & Offers Tips for Making Meetings Better

Richmond, VA (PRWEB) January 25, 2012

GiveMore.com, a company committed to developing messages and material that help leaders kick-off and support their meetings in a fresh and interesting way, recently conducted a survey asking participants to share ?the worst thing about meetings?. The results bolster support for the company?s mission to make meetings better and prompted Sam Parker, GiveMore.com?s co-founder and bestselling author of 212 the extra degree? to outline a list of tips for better meetings.

?Not surprising, all of these responses could be distilled into less than 15 repeated answers," said Parker. The most common responses were:

????No clear purpose or objective.
????Not organized. No agenda.
????Too long.
????Boring. Nothing new or interesting.
????Not inspiring or motivating.
????Doesn't start on time, stay on track, or finish on time.
????Lack of interaction.
????Allowing attendees to ramble and repeat the same comments and thoughts.
????Weak presenter (unprepared, not succinct, monotone, overly redundant).
????Repeating information for late arrivals.
????No specific action items or walk-away points.

"Meetings are an opportunity. They're an important part of how we connect, how we learn and inform, and how we encourage,? says Parker.

?If you're running a meeting, don't do the things that annoy people,? he suggests. ?Be a grown-up. Respect your attendees by preparing well, communicating well, and valuing time - our most valuable commodity. Make it about making your attendees better as a result of the meeting and you'll be better for it too. Somehow, people let these basics slip.?

For meeting attendees, Parker recommends that people participate in a supportive way by being part of the discussion - asking and answering questions. "When people find themselves in a meeting that isn't as valuable as they'd like, they need to be part of the solution and avoid being a part of the group that doesn't help; or worse, spreads negativity about the meeting."

Whether you?re running or attending a meeting, Sam?s recommendation is the same. ?Few meetings are perfect,? says Mr. Parker. ?Give people the break you?d like to be given and make good things happen. It?s part of Loving Your People.?
