DOWNSET Joins PROJEKT REVOLUTION TOUR

(PRWEB) May 18, 2004

downset. has just been confirmed to join Linkin Park on the second stage of Projekt Revolution, featuring Korn, Snoop Dogg, The Used, and Less Than Jake on this summer's tour.

downset. will unleash songs from their long awaited 4th album, "Universal", on the tour. "Universal" is slated to release June 1st, on Seattle-based Hawino Records. The band just completed 11 blistering new songs, and has been performing sporadically as they return to the top of the amalgamated world they created over a decade ago.

Founded in Los Angeles in the late 80's as part of the thriving hardcore scene, downset. has evolved into an icon of sorts. As the original blenders of rap, funk, hardcore, punk, metal, and socially aware lyrics, they drew influences from Black Flag to Black Sabbath, Public Enemy to Bob Marley.

Their reemergence marks the strength and integrity that has been held high in the eyes and ears of fans and believers. And while their previous efforts have sold close to 300,000 copies worldwide, "Universal" is set to follow suit. Tracks like "Forever", "All Crews", "Black Glock", and "Jumpin' Off", showcase the uncompromising anger and gritty reality downset. fans have learned to expect.

Projekt Revolution kicks off July 23rd and will be hitting 32 different cities through the US. Tickets for every stop are on sale now. Head over to ProjektRevolution.com for buy links and all other additional information or go to http://www.downset.net.

5th Projekt Nominated For Toronto Indie Award

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) September 22, 2005

Toronto based band, 5th Projekt, has been nominated for Best Alternative Artist at the first annual Toronto Independent Music Awards to be held on October 5th, 2005 at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. "Alternative once meant different from the mainstream, which is exactly what we are" says 5th Projekt's Sködt D McNalty. "It's great to be a part of something in it's inception that recognizes it's roots."

5th Projekt creates its own unique style, best described as neo-classical romanticism, or simply cinematic. This group of experienced musicians uses influences of all elements of life to create their music promoting balance of mind, body, and soul. The band combines the talents of Tara Rice (vocals, guitar), Nathan Kaye (drums), Peter Broadley (bass) and McNalty (guitars, machines). In 2003 Rice?s solo album, Face, was nominated for Best Folk Singer/Songwriter in the Music Resource Group?s Independent Music Awards.

The Tales Of The Don Quixote is 5th Projekt?s most recent EP, released under their own label, Organik Records. Building upon their first 2 EP?s, this new extended EP contains 11 songs embracing a creative departure from classic song arrangements. CJLO in Montreal was sent an advance copy of the album and it remained on their top 30 for six weeks.

The 5th Projekt?s Demo 001 was named one of the best albums of 2004, by CJLO in Montreal, and charted at number 25 at CIUT in Toronto. Through this album they also landed on John Sakamoto?s Anti-Hit List in Eye Magazine and Sook-Yin Lee's Definitely Not the Opera on CBC Radio as Independent Artist of the Week.

Presently the band is working on its first full length album, with producer James Heidebrecht (Constantines, Luke Doucet, Royal City, Tangiers) at Chemical Sound in Toronto. The album is set to release at the beginning of 2006

The 2005 Toronto Independent Music Awards will take place at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto on Wednesday, October 5th.

5th Projekt Prepares for an Exciting 2006

(PRWEB) February 15, 2006

Toronto based band 5th Projekt is showcasing for Canadian Music Week at Clinton?s Tavern (693 Bloor St. W., Toronto) on Thursday night, March 2nd at 1am.

5th Projekt has been busy working on new material for their upcoming full-length debut, which caught the interest of Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club). As a result, he will be mixing the yet-to-be-titled album for the band. ?It is most excellent to have our music in the hands of a creative entity that we believe in and have him believe in us back,? says 5th Projekt?s Sk?dt D. McNalty. The album is scheduled for release in the spring of 2006.

5th Projekt is a band that is difficult to categorize into one specific genre of music. Their sound has been described as lush, cinematic, ethereal & haunting. The band has drolly dubbed it ?Neo-Classical Romanticism?. It is very much about finding balance and by no means limits itself to the music alone. They formed in 2003 and feature Tara Rice on vocals and guitars, Sk?dt D McNalty on guitars and machines, Nathan Kaye on drums and Peter Broadley on bass. The Tales of Don Quixote is their most recent EP, released under their own label, Organik Rekords, which got some great reviews.

In the last couple years, they have received tons of campus press, radio support and great backing from their fans. In 2005 they were featured in the Showcase section of Canadian Musician magazine and received a nomination for Best Alternative Artist in the Toronto Independent Music Awards.

5th Projekt effectively unite the metaphysical emphasis of imagination, the emotions and the mind with literature, visual arts and that which is the most fundamentally important celebration of our current culture: music. Something we should all watch closely.

*Unfortunately most of the exciting 2006 news we can't announce yet, we will get the details out as soon as we can.

5th Projekt Releases Debut Album CiRCADiAN

(PRWEB) August 6, 2006

Toronto?s 5th Projekt is releasing its debut full length album CiRCADiAN with a CD Release Party at the Horseshoe on August 29, 2006. 5th Projekt received positive recognition from three previous EP?s including gaining the attention of Los Angeles artist/producer Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) who mixed CiRCADiAN.

5th Projekt?s debut album, which will be released on its own label, Organik Rekords, was recorded at Toronto's Chemical Sound with James Heidebrecht (Daniel Lanois, Sarah Slean, Sloan). CiRCADiAN takes on the themes of balance and discovery. "In A Coma," sets the pace for the dreamlike lyrical exploration and the atmospheric compositions that characterize the album. In "One to Throw Away," the central theme of disdain for the blatant disregard of ecosystems, both within ourselves and in the world around us, comes to light while the music paints a backdrop of darkness. As the multi-layered "Resistance" tells us "they appear as quickly as they escape these dreams and revelations." And so do the images conjured up by the songs, elusive as d?j? vu. If any of it rings true or strikes a chord in the psyche of any one listener, then CiRCADiAN's cycle is complete.

5th Projekt features Tara Rice (voice, guitar, words and programming), Sk?dt D. McNalty (guitar, voice, words and programming) and Peter Broadley (bass). The group?s previous EPs, which 5th Projekt refers to as demos, resulted in being included as a Showcase feature in Canadian Musician Magazine, nominated for Best Alternative Artist at the Toronto Independent Music Awards and Montreal's CJLO FM ranked their DEMOn001 in the top ten EPs of 2004. The song "Skepticosm" found its way, while still in demo mode, onto the Anti-Hit List, a very influential "Alternative Top 10" compiled by music writer John Sakamoto. 5th Projekt was also featured on CBC Radio DJ Sook-Yin Lee's Definitely Not the Opera as Independent Artist of the Week.

5th PROJEKT Release Debut Album 'CiRCADiAN'

(PRWEB) September 8, 2006

Canadian cinematic ensemble 5th Projekt are set to release their full-length debut album, released on 29th August 2006 on Organik Rekords.

A CD release party, taking place at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on August 29th at 10:00 pm, will accompany the release, in association with The EDGE presents Nu Music Nite. (CFNY 102.1 FM Toronto).

A unique band, 5th Projekt is comprised of three musicians who have an unparalleled pool of experience between them, having played with many significant artists. Since joining forces, the band won numerous awards and accolades, among them a nomination for Best Alternative Artist in the 2005 Toronto Music Awards. Already the upcoming album's track 'Oblivion' has won an incredible 17 awards in Alternative Rock, including Best Female Vocal and Best Mood for consecutive weeks, as well as hitting 3rd spot on the KIAC Big 50 (internet radio) after eight weeks in the charts.

Now the band, who have been dubbed "part goth, part folk, part drama, part spiritual," are capitalizing on the sweeping wave of acclaim that followed their 2005 EP 'The Tales of Don Quixote.' Songs on the EP were ubiquitous on Canadian radio, reaching number 7 on CFRC 101.9FM and the EP itself a six-week run in the Top 30 on Montreal's CJLO FM, following a request for an advanced copy.

The complexity of the music of 5th Projekt has most often been described as 'cinematic,' given the strong visual quality evoked by the songs. Easy summations of the group's sound and outlook are elusive, but this is understandable considering the diversity (and complexity) of artists they have been compared to: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Portishead, along with a host of other artists in the musical field of experiment. The new album 'CiRCADiAN', as they describe, offers music that at times abandons typical popular songwriting, but also pays homage to classical compositional structure. The album title refers to the daily cycles of nature, as well as the furious balancing of opposites that characterize life. At the mixing helm was Ken Andrews, formerly of the band 'Failure' who has worked with such artists as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and A Perfect Circle.

The opening track "In A Coma" sets the tone for the album, a dreamlike atmospheric composition that was singled out by John Sakamoto in the Toronto Star Anti-Hit List: "this haunting, relentlessly propulsive track could be an instrumental and it would still manage to articulate the essence of the lyrics: muffled panic, emotional numbness." Heavy stuff. "One To Throw Away" touches on the theme of failing eco-systems, in an emotional demand for a better world. The albums (over a thousand) that the band owns between them certainly seem to have inspired some interesting material.

Compliments from the rock journalism community have been innumerable. Julie Hunter of Tangible Sounds declares that 5th Projekt "have created a brand of music unlike any other." Karen Bliss of Canadian Musician calls the sound "haunting," whereas Wednesday Elektra of Space Junkies sums up 'Tales of Don Quixote' as "very surreal in its brilliant magical vocals, ethereal and delicate, female lulling that could put a baby to sleep."

5th Projekt came into being in 2003. Vocalist Tara Rice had released her solo album 'Face' that year on e.v.e Records, which was subsequently nominated for Best Folk Singer/Songwriter by the International Music Resource Group's Independent Music Awards. She is also contributing, with guitarist Sk?dt, to a project initiated by Ken Andrews called LADNA (Los Angeles Digital Noise Academy), along with such distinguished names as Charlotte Martin, Justin-Meldal Johnsen (Beck, Tori Amos) and Jordon Zadorozny (Abbey, Blinker the Star). Bassist Peter Broadley ? son of a songwriter father ? released an EP with The Leaving Projekt in 2002, entitled 'Inkomplete'. Sk?dt has released two full-length instrumental albums under the moniker Knell, before playing with Peter in The Leaving Projekt. "We never tried to create a certain type of music it just came out. Tara and myself are just different by nature," says Sk?dt of 5th Projekt's music.

The band has attended the 2005 North By Northeast Festival Showcase as well as The Canadian Music Week Showcase this year. They have already declared their intention "to be touring this vast and various world, sharing our music and visiting the cultures of the unique peoples that inhabit this planet."

For now, this, their first full album, will elate fans and converted critics. To further assert their independence, the album is released on their own label, Organik Rekords. Their "quest for our own unique and original sound" has taken a significant step towards completion.

Vocalist Andrea Fultz Releases "The German Projekt," A New CD of German Songs from the '20s and '30s

Richmond, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2009

On her stunning new CD "The German Projekt," which features jazz-imbued arrangements of classic songs by Brecht-Weill and Friedrich Hollaender and which is being released on May 12, singer Andrea Fultz sounds as if she'd been born to interpret this rich, complex body of music.

But in fact the album concept came to fruition a mere three or four years ago, while she was living and studying in San Francisco and performing with musical colleagues who were interested in exploring Kurt Weill's songs with her. "The material was really completely new to me," says the Munich-born Fultz, 34, who has worked with a variety of bands ranging from American Songbook to electronica to bossa nova. "I knew the melodies, but not all the words. The dark Weill stuff was very exciting."

Joined by violinist Dina Maccabee, accordionist Rob Reich, percussionist Micha Patri, bassist Eugene Warren, and pianist Adam Shulman, whose credits include work with Stefon Harris, Paula West, and Bobby Hutcherson, Fultz began to delve into the songs and arrangements that evolved into "The German Projekt." She and her band, augmented by a three-man horn section, will appear at a CD release event at Yoshi's in Oakland on Monday, May 18.

"The music has to support the lyrics and follow the stories of the songs," says Rob Reich, in speaking of the challenges of arranging "The German Projekt." "And these are often heavy, dramatic stories, full of changes in tempo and harmony, and full of intense emotions. We were fortunate to be working with some very talented jazz musicians. We wanted them to have some room for interpretation and improvisation, so it was important to strike a balance between staying true to the original musical conception and allowing the songs to breathe and grow."

Although several Weill compositions, such as "Mack the Knife" (aka "Moritat"), "My Ship," and "September Song," have become jazz standards, most of his oeuvre remains in the cabaret or art song realm. "Alabama Song," which opens "The German Projekt" and is sung in English, was previously recorded by the Doors and David Bowie (whom Fultz calls "my absolute hero!"); Marianne Faithfull and Dee Dee Bridgewater have released more extensive Weill collections.

Sonny Rollins, who counts Friedrich Hollaender among his favorite composers, has recorded "Falling in Love Again" ("Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss auf Liebe eingestellt"), the theme from "The Blue Angel," and frequently performs the song in concert. (Early in his career, Rollins was fond of Hollaender's "This Is the Moment," and was playing it the night that Miles Davis first hired him.)

"It is a big thing for me to represent German culture in America," says Fultz, the daughter of a German mother and American father. "I really think this music is brilliant. Brecht and Weill and Hollaender are so timeless."

In addition to "Alabama Song," the CD contains six other Brecht-Weill compositions: "Bilbao Song," "Denn wie man sich bettet so liegt man," "Barbara Song," "Seer?uber Jenny," "Surabaya Johnny," and "M?ckie Messer" ("Mack the Knife"). Hollaender is represented by two songs from The Blue Angel ("Ich bin von Kopf bis Fuss auf Liebe eingestellt," "Kinder, heut Abend da such ich mir was aus"), "Johnny," and the ballad "Wenn ich mir was w?nschen d?rfte." Fultz sings Hanns Eisler and Bertolt Brecht's "Song of a German Mother" with Eric Bentley's English lyrics.

Andrea Fultz is looking to take the "German Projekt" music to clubs and festivals in the U.S. and abroad. "This music is about the context, it's not about singing flawlessly or bebopping," she says. "It's so different for me to sing in German. It's given me more freedom than any other music before."
